Stavely, Alberta – The Canadian-American Junior Hockey League (CAJHL) is proud to announce the return of one of its franchises, the Southern Alberta Mustangs. The team will call Stavely, Alberta home, bringing high-level junior hockey to the heart of Southern Alberta.
The Mustangs will be owned and operated by new owner, Lisa May, whose deep roots in community service and passion for hockey make her an ideal leader for the team. With a background in emergency medical services and training in social work and addiction counselling, Lisa brings a holistic and compassionate perspective to the world of junior hockey.
“When the CAJHL approached me to start a Southern Alberta junior team, it was a no-brainer for me to say yes,” said Lisa May. “Hockey has always been more than just a game—it’s a way to bring people together, foster growth, and provide opportunities for young athletes to reach their full potential.”
Lisa’s commitment to community values is at the core of the Mustangs’ mission. “Hockey has a unique ability to unite families, friends, and neighbours,” she said. “All things I believe strongly in. I truly believe that investing in a junior hockey team is an investment in our youth and in our country’s sport.”
CAJHL Interim Commissioner, Bryan Brown, enthusiastically welcomed back the Mustangs. “We are thrilled to welcome back the Southern Alberta Mustangs to the CAJHL family,” said the Commissioner. Lisa May’s dedication to youth development and community building embodies the spirit of our league. Stavely is about to become a key player in the future of the Canadian-American Junior Hockey League.
The Southern Alberta Mustangs will begin assembling their roster and coaching staff in the coming months, with updates to follow on tryouts, community events, and ticket information.
As Lisa May puts it:
"Hockey is not a one-man show. Sometimes you win, sometimes you learn."
